(Parentheses) at the Hamilton Fringe Festival

(Parentheses) is a contemporary dance duet which explores darkness, beauty and longing. By definition, ‘parentheses’ delineate explanatory thoughts. The work explores the idea of ‘parentheses’ as personal elements of conversations that are often unspoken. The gallery setting cultivates the intimacy of the work. Be ready for a stimulating journey into movement.

Hamilton Fringe Festival

Form and Fixation is a mixture of spoken word, video installation, performance art and contemporary dance. The show is comprised of two works: Blue, a politically charged work commenting on the roles of leader, follower and individual; and Reverie, which explores automatism and the natural meanderings of the mind. Form and Fixation will inspire you to reflect upon our complex realities as individuals and society.

We aim to create art that resonates with our audience during and after the performance. While our show is child friendly (there is no nudity or coarse language) our work is geared towards mature audiences who want to be challenged, questioned and inspired. We believe our work has plenty of entertaining moments but our target audience are those with active and curious minds who are looking for a challenging work to wrestle and engage with even after the performance is over.  Vulnerability is one of our most precious tools during our creation process. We seek to expose our truths (fears, weakness, happiness, etc.) within the work we create. As Gary Smith from the Hamilton Spectator said when writing about Form: “Think cutting-edge. Think New Wave European dance. Think the sort of contemporary vision Americans like to call Eurotrash. Why? Because they just don't get it. It challenges notions of what dance ought to be.”  We would love for you to join us in our creative journey. We are always honoured to welcome and introduce new audiences to our work.   Before our show we will have a short talk about what we do and please stay after for a Q&A session.
